Robin Schwartz (Sophie's pick)

Robin Schwartz does photography. Her pictures appeared in many magazines, hang in many museums and she has published  "Amelia's World" in 2008, LIKE US: "Primate Portraits" in 1993, and "Dog Watching" in 1995. Amelia is Robins daughter and she is in a lot of her pictures. Her website shows a lot of her work, it is: http://www.robinschwartz.net/main.php

Some of her photographs are very busy and noisy, some are very fairy like and some are very clean and slick as though carefully staged. I love all of her photos, of course some more than others, but I absolutely love the way she works with her daughter and animals within one frame. (Just a little side note; I sometimes find myself counting all the different animals on some of her pictures... it is amazing how many animals and how many different kinds she has around!)

A quote that describes how these pictures happen: "My photographs are drawn from real journeys undertaken with my daughter, Amelia. I am driven to depict relationships with animals but the photographs are not documents; they are evidence of the invented worlds that we explore and the fables we enact together. Photography gives us the opportunity to access our dreams, to discover the extraordinary. " Robin Schwartz

As said in Jenny's pick, by Frank Noelker: "His pictures are purposefully driven to show our connection to animals ", these two artists work carefully with animals, their emotions, their stories,...
